The premium processed meat segment is rapidly expanding in the Romanian market, driven by growing demand for high-quality products and clean labels. According to Euromonitor data, the European premium meat market grew by 9% annually between 2020–2024.
In Romania, the value of the premium processed meat segment exceeded €250 million in 2024, accounting for 15% of the total market. Products with traditional recipes, natural additives, and sustainable packaging are the most sought after by consumers.
Challenges for processors include high production costs and the difficulty of maintaining shelf life without synthetic additives. At the same time, competition from imported premium products places additional pressure on local producers.
In the medium term, the adoption of modern technologies and the strengthening of local brands could secure the competitiveness of Romania’s premium sector, both on the domestic market and in exports.
