Transport is a key factor in maintaining the quality of fruits and vegetables from farm to consumer. According to FAO, global post-harvest losses can reach 30%, much of which is caused by inadequate transport and storage conditions.

In Romania, poor infrastructure and the lack of modern cold storage units are the main causes of losses. INS data show that approximately 15% of the annual production of fresh vegetables does not reach the market due to damage during transport.

Modern solutions include the use of refrigerated vehicles, IoT sensors for monitoring temperature and humidity, and smart packaging that extends product freshness. At the same time, investments in regional collection and distribution centers can reduce losses and support the competitiveness of local farmers.

In the medium term, the integration of technology and the modernization of logistics will become critical factors for maintaining the quality and safety of fruits and vegetables destined for both the domestic market and exports.
