Demand for minimally processed vegetables (cleaned, cut, packaged) is on the rise, driven by the fast-paced lifestyle in major cities. According to Euromonitor, the global ready-to-cook vegetable market grows by over 7% annually, and Romania is following this trend.
In 2024, the value of the local minimally processed vegetable market exceeded €60 million, with a growth rate of 15% compared to the previous year. Consumers appreciate the convenience and freshness of these products, but higher prices remain a barrier for part of the population.
Challenges for producers include investments in modern processing lines, maintaining freshness, and complying with strict hygiene standards. At the same time, clear labeling in retail regarding product origin and benefits is becoming essential.
In the long term, minimally processed vegetables can support both urban consumption and the development of local farmers, who can diversify their offerings and increase competitiveness on the domestic market.
