Organic dairy products are gaining more and more ground on the Romanian market, driven by the growing interest in healthy and sustainable nutrition.

According to Eurostat, Romania’s organic market exceeded 150 million euros in 2024, with dairy products accounting for approximately 20% of this segment. Demand for organic milk, yogurt, and cheese is on the rise, especially in major cities, where consumers are willing to pay higher prices for certified products.

At the same time, the number of organic dairy farms has increased by over 12% in the past two years, supported by European subsidies and national programs. The challenges for farmers include high production costs, strict certification requirements, and distribution difficulties. Moreover, competition from imported organic products limits the rapid development of domestic production.

In the long term, Romania’s organic dairy sector has growth potential through farm consolidation, the development of short supply chains, and the promotion of exports to EU markets where demand for organic products is already mature.
