Turkey Meat Gains Ground on the Romanian Market
Turkey meat is gaining ground on the Romanian market, being perceived as a healthy option with a low caloric intake. According to FAO, turkey meat consumption in the EU increased by 9% between 2020 and 2024, a trend also reflected in Romania.
Data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS) show that in 2024, average turkey meat consumption reached 2.1 kg per capita, compared to 1.7 kg in 2020. This growth is supported by the diversification of retail offerings and promotional campaigns focused on balanced nutrition.
Turkey meat has a low fat content (approx. 2%) and is rich in high-quality proteins, B vitamins, and essential minerals. These characteristics make it highly recommended for healthy diets and for preventing cardiovascular diseases.
Romanian processors can capitalize on this trend by developing new, value-added products, such as light deli meats or ready-to-eat meals, tailored to the needs of modern consumers.
