Carrots are among the most consumed vegetables in Romania, being used both in daily diets and in the canning industry. According to INS data, carrot production exceeded 230,000 tons in 2024, up 6% compared to the previous year.

The average annual consumption per capita is 10 kg, yet Romania still imports around 25,000 tons, mainly from the Netherlands and Poland. The value of these imports surpassed €18 million in 2024.

Farmers face several challenges, including the lack of refrigerated storage facilities and climate fluctuations that affect both quality and yields. FAO studies show that post-harvest losses for carrots can reach 15–20% without proper infrastructure.

In the long term, solutions include modernizing cultivation technologies, creating collection and storage centers, and accessing European funds to develop the sector.
