Sustainability has become an essential criterion in the meat industry, influencing both public policies and consumer preferences. According to the FAO 2024 report, the livestock sector is responsible for approximately 14% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

In Romania, processors and farmers are increasingly attentive to environmental impact, adopting measures such as the use of renewable energy, reducing food waste, and improving animal welfare. Some companies are investing in technologies for valorizing organic waste and in eco-friendly packaging.

Globally, demand for products certified as sustainable is growing, and major retailers are introducing stricter standards for suppliers. In Romania, these trends are reflected in the development of the premium segment, where consumers are willing to pay more for products labeled as environmentally friendly.

In the long term, sustainability will become a key element of competitiveness in the meat industry, and farmers and processors who invest now will gain an advantage on the European market.
