Food Safety Remains a Key Priority for the Food Industry in Romania and the EU
Food safety continues to be one of the major priorities of the food industry in Romania and the European Union. In 2025, processors and retailers must comply with strict standards aligned with EU regulations and the recommendations of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
🛡️ Regulatory Framework
According to EU legislation, all food industry facilities must implement HACCP systems (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), which enable the identification and control of critical points in the production process. Additionally, ISO 22000 standards provide a comprehensive framework for food safety management systems.
⚠️ Key Non-Compliance Issues
Data from the European Commission show that in 2024, the main non-compliance issues in Romania were related to incorrect labeling, lack of traceability, and expired shelf life. The National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) increased inspections, issuing fines totaling over 15 million lei in the food sector.
🤝 Business and Consumer Confidence
For processors and retailers, compliance with standards is not only a legal requirement but also a critical factor in maintaining consumer trust and business partnerships. The implementation of modern digital monitoring systems and the continuous training of staff are essential steps in this direction.
🔍 Evolving Requirements
In the medium term, food safety requirements will become more complex, including additional checks for allergens, chemical residues, and compliance of packaging with food safety standards.
