In the first six months of 2025, Romanian agri-food exports reached 5.1 billion euros, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS), an increase of 7.4% compared with the same period in 2024. The largest increases were recorded in processed cereals, dairy products, and bakery goods.
The main destinations remain Germany, Italy, and Spain, but emerging markets are appearing in the Middle East, Central Asia, and North Africa. Exports to the United Arab Emirates increased by 36%, while those to Kazakhstan rose by 41%.
Key factors behind this positive trend:
• the growing appreciation of quality products with controlled origin (e.g., PDO, PGI);
• the adaptation of packaging to the requirements of target markets;
• logistical support through multimodal transport and regional hubs.
To sustain this momentum, it is essential to expand processing capacities and implement coherent national agri-food branding strategies. Support programs for exporters offered through MADR and MAE must be strengthened to facilitate access to non-EU markets.
